Promoting YourSELF

In the current tech age to be understood, valued and attract the opportunities you are seeking you need to be willing to promote yourSELF, or at the very least share your point-of-view.

So what does that mean and how can you do it successfully?

Gary Vaynerchuk, the prolific media content creator was recently asked about what it takes to be successful, he said:

"You need self-awareness." Self-awareness is a recurring theme in figuring out what one should spend their time doing. "That is the way to find out what you should focus on. People look at me and wonder how they can become successful, but I think it’s so important to not try to copy what I'm doing or what somebody else is doing, because I think that people sometimes already know." Gary is a firm believer that, in our core, we actually know what to do. There are just a number of barriers in the way, such as caring too much what other people think about us.

I would add that you need to gain meaningful self-awareness to build a deeper understanding about what’s important to you (that’s not always as obvious as it seems, so I’ll talk more on that soon). Then you can share YOUR unique perspective. I love that Vaynerchuk is a huge advocate for people not simply copying him, but that they take the time to learn about themselves, so they can be their own unique expression.

I think the point he makes about us knowing in our core the answer that’s right for us is very true - in my experience though many people forget what their natural talents are.

So what’s the impact of forgetting what your talents are?

It then becomes harder to share your voice. It’s also why so many people become clones of others - for a while that can seem less painful as the road is already laid out. In reality though true happiness and peace of mind come from working out who we are, what we are here for and what matters to us. To me that’s what it means to be happy in your own skin.

One of my top mantra’s is: “Always do what’s right for you”.

After all you know what you enjoy, you know how you want to feel and you have the option to navigate your own journey, right?

If you are struggling to work out if something is right for you or not, I have a simple test for you. Look at yourself in the mirror and check in with yourself, when you see yourself how do you feel? Are you comfortable with the choices you are making and the person you see in the mirror looking back at you?

If NOT, then it’s time for change.

Think of it this way too - the world needs everyone’s input. We are all here to walk our own path and be a contribution, so why not make it unique and meaningful?

If you need help to increase your self-awareness so that you can promote yourself effectively and easily - reach out, I can help.
