#lituphumans - What Fuels Them?

I often talk about people I meet as '#lituphumans’. It’s a term (or hashtag) I created when I wanted to shine a light on these exciting and inspirational people.

What do I mean by the term “lit-up humans’ and what qualities do I believe they have?

  1. They are people who are in flow with their lives and no matter what life throws at them they follow their own path and ride out all the storms that come their way.

  2. When you meet them, they have that certain ‘je ne sais quoi’ that makes you want to know more about them and invest time with them.

  3. When you capture them in a photo, their eyes twinkle, particularly when they are doing the ‘thing’ they LOVE to do, that really ignites them.

  4. They inspire hope, and potentially jealousy in others because they exude an air of ease and grace in every day life.

  5. They choose to put their energy into pursuits that they LOVE and as a result, they PERFORM well.

  6. They tend to be relentless in pursuit of their dreams, their purpose and their passion.

  7. They tend to know how to take care of themselves and others.

Over the years I have coached hundreds of people and noticed these qualities in people who, as I call it, are ‘up to something’.

They want more from life and to they want to make their mark whilst they are here. They tend to want to do work that’s meaningful to them and often that has exponential positive ‘ripple effects’ to many others due to the way in which they go about it.

I believe David Beckham is a #lituphuman.

In the past few days I have watched the new ‘Beckham’ Netflix documentary and frankly it’s emotional, touching and really quite eye-opening about his life, his family and the impact his innate football talent, career and personal choices have had on him and his family.

It covers a lot of ground and includes many players who were part of his epic journey - they shared their perspectives on his life too which were also illuminating. The thing that hit me most as I watched it though, and listened to his incredible career story unfold, was his unequivocal passion for his sport, football. He is completely and utterly ‘on fire’ for it. So much so that you can see as you look at his timeline, how his choices related to that passion have carved the shape of his journey and the life he leads today.

From a young boy he practiced playing everyday in their back garden, watched lovingly by his father who simply wanted the best for him and for him to play the game as well as he could. That led to David being signed by his dream club, Manchester United at the age of 15. Now at 48 he is still not willing to walk away from the game he loves, so he is now the proud co-owner of Inter Miami CF, a newly formed US Soccer Club. I think the sport is better off as a result as the club and players will benefit from his vast experience and wisdom - who knows what’s next?

It’s exciting, inspiring and motivating when we see people ‘on fire’ for things that they believe in.

So the question is - are you a #lituphuman and if so what are the things that fuel your personal fire?

More on this coming soon Xox
